In 2014, the Hockey Alberta Board of Directors, formed a committee to develop a process that would enable Alberta’s hockey athletes to compete at a level that is fair and equitable for the specific skill level of each athlete. The focus of the process deals with the “competitive” system within Hockey Alberta and provides for the development of athletes at a Regional level, acting as a “feeder system” for Elite AAA hockey.

While Midget 15 AA, now U16 AA, was launched in the now defunct league, REMHL in 2008-09, after last season’s province-wide pilot, Hockey Alberta has officially declared the U16 AA age category under jurisdiction of the AA Model.
